Disney: a brief history
The Walt Disney Company (DIS) is one of the world's largest entertainment companies and is a pioneer in the animation industry, having produced 790 features, 122 of which are animated films.
DIS had entered a difficult time after the death of Walt Disney in 1966 and Roy O. Disney in 1971. It narrowly escaped a hostile takeover by financier Saul Stenberg in the mid-1980s.
The Disney Renaissance began after the appointment of Michael Eisner as CEO in 1984. Under Eisner’s tenure, Disney returned to churning out critically and commercially successful animated films including 10 classic which were made in the period 1989-1999.
